I managed to import all my old blogs thanks to a mostly successful yoinker tool (do you suppose “Yank my Blog” T-Shirts would sell? Me neither). Certain formatting didn’t survive the migration so I am going back, reviewing all the old posts, and rehorking them manually as I can’t find a painless automatic hack. I hope this WordPress is as cool as it looks!
UPDATE: In other news, I have acknowleged my true nature and purchased a La-Z-Boy.
In the old days, I spent most of my time in the living room on the green couch where I alternate between reading, napping and computing on the ol’ laptop. It turns out that a couch corner is not the most comfy place for laptopping. Finally this weekend I cound stand it no longer. I embarked on a Quest! Mission: find a table for my laptop and flatscreen and a chair for my butt.
* ASIDE: I picked up a VA1912wb ViewSonic flatscreen for work after discovering that they have 1440×900 native resolution, same as my laptop. I discovered that it is really an awesome monitor! I was looking at some photos I’d worked on and saw details I’d never noticed before. So I got another just like it for home. Yes, having a monitor defeats the convenience of a laptop[1], but it is really awesome for photo editing and I do a lot of that.
First I went to Ikea. I saw the frenzied mass of cars there and drove away without entering. Next I went to Staples thinking I might find a plush office chair comfy enough to do the job. I tried a bunch out. It was hard to leave ’cause the guy part of me that hates shopping just wanted to get one and get out, but I knew I could do better so I left.
Next I went to Canadian Tire. There I found what’s supposed to be a printer table, but it’s perfect for what I need. The monitor goes on the top, my laptop lives on the middle shelf, there’s room for junk on the bottom, and it has casters so I can roll it beside the chair to ogle the monitor or shove it out of the way. Halfway there, baby! One down, one to go.
Next I drove back to Kanata, hoping to find some sort of furnishing store. I found one near Kanata Centrum but it was too pricey for this cheap working-class monkey. The layout of the store reminded me of The Brick, so I went there where I found one or two chairs that suited me (in the La-Z-boy recliner section), but after talking to a saleslady I discovered I couldn’t get one ’til next week. That didn’t suit the man in me (enter, purchase, exit) so I went to the nearby La-Z-Boy Gallery (both stores are in the Hunt Club and Merivale shopping sprawl).
There I found a nice blue recliner, marked down $300 because of some sale that was going on and because it was the last one. I took it home right away - though putting it in the car was a bit challenging, I used my +7 Desperate Engineering skills to get the job done.
[1] Actually not. If I’m in my comfy chair I can use the monitor, but I can still unplug and go out on the back deck, or downstairs to do flightsimming on the big screen, or out to the car or wherever I please. The convenience remains unscathed! If anything, it’s enhanced!
This is a test comment. Does it work?
