297 York Street

My friends are selling their house in downtown Ottawa!
Off and on over the past few years I’ve been helping them renovate their place. It makes me glad to see the final results were well worth the effort I put into my small part of the overall, well, meta-job, I guess. I’m also really happy for my friends who, after putting a lot of their precious time into this for so long, are nearing the end of the tunnel. Perhaps they’ll have so much free time they’ll be able to help me with one or two projects of my own.
I like to think that working on their place has been as helpful to me in learning and improving my home renovation skills as it has been in helping them get it to where it is now. Another of my hobbies is photography, so when they asked me to help in that respect I was only too happy to oblige. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do my thing in time for much of my work to make it to their Grapevine website. Still, I learned a lot and improved my photo processing workflow, especially in the panoramic realm.
I reached further into the creativity bucket and decided to come up with this brochureish hand-out type thing for them to give their appointments / viewers. I came up with floorplans based on the measurements published on their Grapevine site and on what I know of their place. Then, using that plus their Grapevine scibework and my photos, I dove into Inkscape and up surfaced this PDF:

Along the way a cow orker pointed out Scribus to me, which is now installed on my laptop and waiting patiently for me while I (not so patiently) try to come up with a project worthy of its utility.
